Images WANT to be FREE!

Donncha one of the WordPress guys has a post about running out of space and really got me thinking about how to use extra space on this blog…

A picture is worth a thousand words. Certain pictures are embedded deep within our collective unconscious minds. Who can ever forget some of the classic images of our time such as the famous photograph of children running down the road after a napalm bombing in Vietnam or the toppling of the Berlin Wall?

Images can capture a moment in time. They represent an important aspect of our lives and record certain times and events. Pictures are way of expressing ourselves and are part of our shared history and humanity.

People who have lost their house and possesions in a fire often say that the thing they miss most from the loss was their family photos. All the other possesions can be replaced. Memories fade over time but digital images last forever.

More and more people are becoming aware of this and creating online photo journals. Blogs are popping up all over the place. With the introduction of web 2.0 technology on sites such as Flickr people can now not only share their images but also create communities of like-minded individuals around a certain topic.

Images want to be free. With Creative Commons Licenses we have the ability to share and comment on other peoples images bringing those images to a whole new audience of people who might have never otherwise seen them.

Things change. Clothing and hairstyles come in and out fashion. Tattoos and body art are no different. The beauty of blogs is that they record current events and trends and are then archived to become an important body of work. This blog is no different. It relies on the input of others to keep it going. Please support us to keep it this way.
